Still Have Questions about Corporate Coaching?

A corporate coach can work internally as part of the business, or be contracted in. The focus is to partner with the business unit wanting support to help the individuals and teams meet their desired goals.

The corporate coach aims to unlock potential and build awareness with the individual and link personal and professional development with business goals.

There can be a three-way coaching engagement where an individual’s boss takes part in the coaching session to add depth and focus to the overarching program. Integrity, honesty and confidentiality remain at the forefront of the engagement. The coach acts as the middle ground and connection point for individual and organizational growth and development.

Trust, flexibility, adaptability and integrity are key words that come to mind.

A good corporate coach is a master communicator. It’s important for the coach to connect on a human level, build trust and manage expectations in order to support business and individual needs. Some clients want to use coaching as a form of performance management, some clients want to include coaching as part of a rewards program. Open and honest communication is key to building a solid working relationship. The client and coach need to be on the same page when it comes to delivery, success criteria and ROI (return on investment).

Corporate coaching helps clients to wake up, grow up and show up so that they prosper as individuals which in turn benefits the business. Learning is an ongoing process. Through a cycle of action and reflection, the coach helps the client to navigate their areas of development within a safe environment. Discussion and reflection support learning because the individual is given space to explore the past, sit in the present and decide on action steps for the future. This process is repeated and in doing so, learning can take place. The coach acts as a sounding board and important accountability partner to support learning from recognition to result.

Coaching can be a great support mechanism to a manager or leader when it comes to building an effective team. Whether the coach works internally or externally, they can provide a platform to facilitate growth and development for individual members which ultimately leads to growth and development for the team. Team coaching usually involves getting to know the individual members first, which may or may not include manager input. The coach then provides a safe space to facilitate open and honest discussion, looking at team dynamic, strengths and areas for growth. Due to the facilitation and coaching lead conversation, there can be robust engagement and direct feedback to support learning and development rather than anyone feeling victimized or excluded.
